As we dodge Nor’easters, travel to Albany and raise our voices and push for more resources for our schools and adult programs, let me take the time to say thank you to all who attended Legislative events and advocated for our services.
Whether you went to a Legislative Breakfast or another local event to see an elected official, got to Albany before the weather got windy and white, made a call, wrote a letter, attended a Rally and shared your passion for quality that is in jeopardy, you’ve done the right thing for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our Newsletter is a few days behind as we were engaged heavily in making our legislative advocacy experience the best it could be, which Wini will review a bit further down. They never run completely smoothly, and we detected many areas to improve, but as COPA, we made our presence felt and our message clear. We are not done yet as the one-House Bills are coming this week it appears. Then, we will see how the Executive branch reacts. It is still primarily about our workforce, our teacher and our DSPs. We will be calling on you to act in the next couple of weeks, so keep your energy and commitment on alert as rallies and phone calls may be needed.
Thanks to the elected who still stand with us, and thanks to self-advocates and families for joining us.
Keep the faith.
