#BecauseofMedicaid

IAC and COPA have joined with a number of other groups concerned about potential federal threats to Medicaid funding, specifically the threats to Medicaid in New York State.   We have signed on to the #BecauseOfMedicaid campaign which is intended to demonstrate the wide variety of New Yorkers who depend on Medicaid for healthcare and community supports.  It will also allow us to voice our opposition to the American Health Care Act’s proposed cuts to Medicaid expansion and end to the Federal government’s commitment to funding based on need.

It is critical that our federal leaders, specifically the New York Congressional delegation hear from us on this issue.   We are participating in this campaign along with a coalition of other groups and organizations across the state in an effort to enlist the support of the members of the New York State Congressional Delegation in opposing these cuts and depriving thousands of New Yorkers of the health care coverage they so desperately need.  The social media campaign will be a short Wednesday – Friday campaign this week with tweets, selfies and videos, with sample messaging included to allow senders to tell how Medicaid has improved their lives.

Please use the toolkit (  pdf Tool Kit for #BecauseofMedicaid (88 KB)  ) to contact the key elected officials identified.  The kit includes sample social media messages as well as a list of the facebook pages and twitter handles of the NY Congressional Delegation. The attached graphics are examples for you to use to “brand” the messages from people in your organization. Please edit and adapt these for your organization.

We ask that you please join us in the campaign by asking your staff, families, volunteers and others to send messages to the representatives in congress telling them that they must protect Medicaid.

If you have any questions, please contact me.
