This course is an introduction to the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver. It is the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities' (OPWDD) primary funding mechanism for supporting the Individualized Service Environment (ISE).  This material includes an overview of the ISE, a history and overview of the waiver, waiver services and the Service Coodinator's responsibilities regarding the waiver. 
 
Topics covered in the workshop include:
  • Understanding the HCBS waiver, its history, scope and major aspects
  • Understanding the HCBS waiver services and the Service Coordinator's responsibilities regarding the waiver
This is an OPWDD required training for Medicaid Service Coordinators. 

All participants are required to download and print the Home and Community Based Services Waiver Participant Manual prior to training day and bring the entire manual with them to training. Copies will not be provided. As per state requirements, the hard copy manual is required for participant admittance.
